"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works , and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgement." Hebrews 6:1,2
Our challenge today!
I heard a story about a man that was confused in his life, he wondered why he kept doing the things that he no longer wanted to do. In his explanation he reported that he felt as if he was entering an elevator and desired to go to the tenth floor but every time he tried to get there the elevator stopped at the ninth floor. As he continued to analyze his procedure he found that every time he was pushing the same button, the ninth floor button. As Christians we often do this, we desire a certain thing from God but always return to the foundational teachings that we are familiar with such as repentance, baptisms, laying on of hands etc. instead of pressing past those unto perfection, instead of stepping out in faith. This passage is a word that motivates us to move on past laying these foundations over and over again and calls us to climb higher, unto putting it all into action by loving God and thy neighbor as thyself, by serving others instead of ourselves, and by stepping out in faith.
A homebuilder never stays in the basement as he builds, but he looks to put the roof on also.
